MDG Summit side event entitled “Accelerating the Achievements of the MDGs through Decent Work” on Monday, 20 September 2010

The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Realizing Rights will host a high-level policy dialogue entitled “Accelerating the Achievements of the MDGs through Decent Work” on Tuesday, 20 September 2010 from 13:00 to 16:00. Three panels will be held. This discussion is a side event of the 2010 MDG summit. The event will take place in the Millennium Plaza Hotel, 44th Street between First and Second Avenue , New York .

 

The forum will include the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, other Heads of State and senior government representatives, UN agencies, top business executives, heads of workers organizations as well as civil society representatives, leading economists and academics. The stakeholders will discuss policies which have been most effective at generating employment, ensuring social protection and creating conditions for the reduction of poverty. The forum will also explore how the Decent Work Agenda can contribute to attaining the MDGs for sustainable economic and social gains. The objectives are to highlight the Decent Work Agenda as an essential component of development strategies and to examine further partnerships. Particular focus will be given to the eradication of poverty through the creation of decent work and partnership development.
